Capitol Police
Headquartered in Topeka, Capitol Police provide safety and security for visitors and employees on state property and the Capitol grounds. Having complete statewide police powers, Capitol Police officers:
- Enforce traffic laws
- Investigate crimes
- Patrol state parking lots
- Regulate traffic flow around the Capitol and other state buildings
Troop personnel also teach safety and crime prevention programs, and provide security for special events.
Other Responsibilities
Working alongside police officers, Capitol Area Guards monitor security systems, provide 24-hour watch on state office buildings, and assist visitors in the Capitol Complex. Troop K personnel also provide security for the First Family at the Governor’s residence, Cedar Crest.
