Promotions
Law Enforcement Officers
Law Enforcement Officer I’s are eligible to promote to a Law Enforcement Officer II after 5 years of experience, and completion of specified advanced training. Law Enforcement Officer II’s will receive an accompanying salary increase. Law Enforcement Officer I’s that transfer 3 previous law enforcement years of service in the state of Kansas are eligible to promote to a Law Enforcement Officer II after 2 years’ experience with Troop K, and upon the completion of specified advanced training, and receive an accompanying salary increase. Law Enforcement Officer III is a front-line supervisory position, and requires a minimum of 5 years Troop K experience, and experience as a Law Enforcement Officer I and II.

Capitol Area Guards
Capitol Area Guards I’s are eligible for promotion to Capitol Area Guards II and receive an accompanying salary increase. A Capitol Area Guard I’s is required to have a minimum of 6 months of experience to be eligible for Capitol Area Guard II.

Communication Specialists
Communication Specialists I’s are eligible for promotion to Communication Specialists II’s after 2 years of service, and receive an accompanying salary increase. With additional years of service, promotions may become available for promotion to Communications Specialist Supervisor.
