The Central Region is home to Kansas State University, Wichita State University, and a number of community and private colleges. There are two major military bases in the region - Fort Riley and McConnell Air Force Base.
Two field troops are located in the Central Region, as well as many of the agency's specialized functions, such as the Special Response Team and K-9 teams (Troop S), Breath Alcohol Unit, and the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Program.
The Central Region commander also oversees Central Communications Center (Troop M) and the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Unit. Located in Salina, Central Communications provides statewide dispatch for the Patrol and oversees the Patrol's statewide radio communications.
Port facilities are located in Belleville and South Haven, and Motor Carrier Inspectors operate throughout the region.
