Troop A consists of only four counties, but because it serves the Kansas City metropolitan area from its Olathe headquarters, it handles a high volume of calls. Like Topeka's Troop B and Wichita's Troop F, Troop A has Motorist Assistance Technicians to help stranded drivers, allowing troopers to focus more on traffic enforcement and criminal interdiction.

One of Troop A's biggest challenges is controlling traffic at the Kansas Speedway in Wyandotte County. During major races, more than 100,000 additional vehicles place heavy demands on an already bustling highway system.
