Homeland Security/Special Operations is assigned to the Patrol's General Headquarters, is responsible for the agency's homeland security related functions, and administers the Homeland Security Grant Program and other related grant programs. It also includes the agency's personnel assigned to Criminal Interdiction/Asset Forfeiture, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Task Force, and the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF).
Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP)
The HSGP, offered through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is designed to enhance the State of Kansas and its key partners' capabilities to prevent, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism. This section of the Web site contains information on available homeland security resources.
Criminal Interdiction/Asset Forfeiture
This group is responsible for coordinating the agency's enforcement activities regarding the removal of illicit drugs/proceeds and felons from Kansas' roadways. The forfeiture of property and cash from criminals through state and federal courts also falls under the purview of this group.
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Task Force
These personnel are temporarily assigned to the U.S. DEA to assist with cases originating or bound for Kansas. Members provide expertise to Patrol and Kansas law enforcement officers in the investigation and apprehension of drug traffickers.
FBI's
Joint Terrorism Task Force
These officers are temporarily assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Their functions as members of the JTTF are to assist the FBI with the investigation of terrorism-related cases that have a connection to Kansas.
