Commander:
Captain Eric Pippin
Headquartered in Topeka, Troop K provides safety and security for visitors and employees on state property and the Capitol grounds. Having complete statewide police powers, Capitol Police officers investigate crimes, enforce traffic laws, patrol state parking lots, and regulate traffic flow around the Capitol and other state buildings. Troop personnel also teach safety and crime prevention programs, and provide security for special events.
Working alongside police officers, Capitol Area Guards monitor security systems, provide 24-hour watch on state office buildings, and assist visitors in the Capitol Complex. Troop K personnel also provide security for the First Family at the Governor’s residence, Cedar Crest.
An officer is assigned to the Kansas Threat Integration Center, hosted by the Kansas National Guard. The KTIC evaluates classified information from government sources and develops and distributes electronic documents for homeland security purposes.
