Mohoney Promoted to Lieutenant

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Technical Trooper Richard J. Mahoney was promoted to lieutenant on February 13, 2005. Mahoney now assumes the role as zone supervisor for the Patrol’s Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) in southeast Kansas.

Mahoney joined the Patrol on November 14, 1983, as a Capitol Area Security Guard. In July of 1984, he was promoted to Capitol Police Officer. In 1987, Mahoney became a trooper and was assigned road patrol duties as a field trooper in Burlington. In 1998, he was promoted to master trooper. In 2001 Mahoney transferred to the MCSAP Program, where he was promoted to technical trooper in 2003. During his tenure with the Patrol, he has served as a field training officer.

Mahoney is a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Xavier Council #6055 and has coached youth sports. He graduated from Jefferson West High School in Meriden, Kansas and attended Washburn University studying criminal justice.
