Captain Waller Retires from the KHP
Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Captain Fred L. Waller retired from the Patrol on September 10, 2005, after serving the citizens of Kansas for nearly 29 years.
Waller joined the Patrol in 1976 as a trooper assigned to Dodge City. He transferred to Lawrence as a road trooper in 1978. In 1985, Waller was promoted to sergeant and performed safety and education duties in the Garden City area, before transferring to Chanute in 1988 and being promoted to lieutenant and serving as a field supervisor. In 1993, he was promoted to captain and became the commander of Troop H, which is headquartered in Chanute. Waller was transferred to Topeka and named Troop B commander in 2003, and in 2005, was named Fleet Operations commander, where he served until his recent retirement. As a member of the Patrol, Waller served as a field training officer in 1981, at which time he trained one of the first female recruit troopers in the organization.
Waller graduated from St. Peter & Paul High School in Seneca, Kansas. He received his bachelor’s of science degree in criminal justice from Washburn University.
The Patrol wishes Fred the best in his retirement.
