DUI Checklane Scheduled for Shawnee County
Traffic on I-470 Will be Stopped and Checked for Impaired Drivers
The Kansas Highway Patrol will be joining the Topeka Police Department and Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office in conducting a sobriety checklane on Interstate 470 in Topeka during the early morning hours of October 30, 2005. The focus of this checklane is to identify and remove intoxicated drivers from the highway.
This joint effort is timely, given pre-Halloween festivities planned in the Topeka area and the extra hour that area drinking establishments will be open that morning due to “falling back” to standard time at 2 a.m. During the checklane, traffic on westbound Interstate 470 near 21 st Street will be stopped and law enforcement officers will evaluate drivers suspected of being intoxicated.
This joint checklane is possible due to impaired driving grants funded by the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Traffic Safety.
