Jefferson County Receives New Trooper

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has assigned Trooper James A. Roelfs to Jefferson County. Trooper Roelfs received the assignment following his recent completion of an extensive 22-week basic law enforcement course at the Patrol's Training Academy in Salina.

Trooper Roelfs is a graduate of Lyons High School. He has an associate's degree in diesel technology from Dodge City Community College, and received an EMT-I certification from Barton County Community College. Trooper Roelfs was a Jackson County sheriff's deputy prior to joining the Patrol. In Jackson County, he was a NRA firearms instructor and DARE/school resource officer. Trooper Roelfs is a volunteer with the Ozawkie Fire Department and an instructor with the Naval Sea Cadet Corps in Leavenworth.

Trooper Roelfs has begun his field duties in Shawnee County under the supervision of Trooper Scott Harrington. Upon completion of field training, he will assume patrol duties in Jefferson County.
