Master Trooper Roland Retires From the Patrol
Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Master Trooper Larry E. Roland has retired from the Patrol, after serving the citizens of Kansas for 24 years. Roland retired on Dec. 16, 2005.
Roland joined the Patrol on June 18, 1981 as a trooper performing road patrol duties in the Leavenworth area. He transferred in July 1983 to patrol the Wichita area, and transferred again in December 1983 to patrol the Olathe area. Roland was promoted to Master Trooper in 1999 and continued his duties in Olathe. As a member of the Patrol, Roland was a recruiter for three years and served as a troop director for the Kansas State Troopers Association. Roland was awarded Governor's Recognition in 1985 for the arrests of impaired drivers, and received the Valor Award for Community Service in 1990. He received a Valor Award for Life Saving in 1991, and Troop DUI Arrest Awards in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987. The Kansas City, Kan. Optimist Club named Roland Officer of the Year in 1992.
Roland is a graduate of Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan. He has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Park College. Prior to joining the Patrol, he was a patrolman with the Kansas City, Kan. Police Department.
