***UPDATE***KHP Searching for Missing Explosive Device

On December 28th, the Kansas Highway Patrol, along with local sheriff and police departments, searched for a missing piece of oilfield equipment that contains a small amount of explosives. Officers have searched the 146-mile route from Hutchinson to Moline by ground and air and have not been able to locate the equipment. In addition, the Kansas Highway Patrol used two aircraft to search for the perforator, but have not been successful.
The item was on a vehicle operated by Eli Wireline Services of Hays and was packed into a metal canister for transportation. When the vehicle arrived in Moline, the cap for the transportation container was gone, and the perforator was missing.
Safety is our biggest concern. Accidental ignition is highly unlikely, but this item should be considered extremely dangerous. If found, the device should not be tampered with or touched. Anyone with information concerning this device should contact the nearest law enforcement agency. The incident remains under investigation.
