New Troopers to Receive Patrol Cars

Addition to Force will Lend to Efforts to Ensure a Safer Holiday Weekend.

The Kansas Highway Patrol's 12 newest troopers will receive their patrol vehicles en masse Monday, May 22 at the Patrol's fleet facility at 930 N.E. Strait Avenue in Topeka. Assistant Superintendent Lieutenant Colonel Terry Maple will speak briefly at a news conference scheduled for 10 a.m.

The new troopers will hit the road just in time for the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend. At the news conference, Lieutenant Colonel Maple will encourage the public to buckle up and drive sober during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend. He also will comment on the importance of quality vehicles for law enforcement officers to ensure their safety and the public's safety.

There will be great photo opportunities as the new troopers receive their vehicles, many with their field-training officers. In inclement weather, the news conference will take place inside the southwest door of the facility.

The new troopers graduated in December from the Patrol's Training Academy in Salina after a rigorous 22 weeks of training. Each has completed field training with a veteran trooper and now will patrol Kansas' roadways alone in their newly issued vehicle.
