Major Dean Retires from Highway Patrol

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Major Courtney C. Dean retired from the Patrol on Aug. 1, 2006. Major Dean served the citizens of Kansas for 30 years.

Dean joined the Patrol on Oct. 18, 1976, as a trooper assigned to the Junction City area. He became a pilot with the Highway Patrol and transferred to Wichita on Dec. 18, 1978. Dean was promoted to an aircraft sergeant on June 18, 1984, and was assigned to Topeka. A year later he transferred to the Governor’s Protective Services Detail and continued to perform pilot services. Dean was promoted to lieutenant on June 18, 1994, and was assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Violent Crime and Street Gang Task Force in Topeka. As a lieutenant, Dean transferred to the Highway Patrol’s Professional Standards Unit (PSU) on June 18, 1996, and was promoted to captain of the PSU on February 22, 1998. He was promoted to major of the Special Services Division on March 1, 2001.
