Conover Retires from the Patrol

Master Trooper Michael Conover

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Master Trooper Michael J. Conover retired from the Patrol on December 16, 2006. Master Trooper Conover served the citizens of Kansas for over 28 years.

Conover joined the Kansas Highway Patrol as a trooper in June 1978 and was assigned to road patrol duties in the Wichita area. He became a pilot in 1979 and continued to serve the Wichita area. Conover returned to road patrol duties in 1982 in Wichita, and rejoined the Patrol's aircraft operations in 1984. In 1990, Conover was promoted to sergeant and served seven years as one of the Patrol's seven Public Resource Officers. In 1998, Conover was promoted to lieutenant and supervised the Auto Theft / Vehicle Inspection Unit. Conover became a master trooper in 2000 and was assigned to patrolling the Kansas Turnpike out of Wichita, where he has served until his recent retirement. Conover has been a member of the Highway Patrol's Peer Support Team since its inception in 1994.

Conover is a graduate of Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 1967 until April 1970, most recently holding the rank of corporal in a combat unit. Prior to joining the Patrol, Conover was a manager at the Pancake House in Wichita.

The Patrol wishes Michael the best in his retirement!
