Zimmerman Retires from the Patrol

Lieutenant Kerry Zimmerman

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Lieutenant Kerry L. Zimmerman retired from the Patrol on December 16, 2006. Lieutenant Zimmerman served the citizens of Kansas for over 28 years.

Zimmerman joined the Kansas Highway Patrol as a trooper in June 1978 and was assigned to road patrol duties in the Hugoton area.  He became a pilot in 1981 and was assigned to aircraft operations in Topeka. In 1982, Zimmerman was promoted to Pilot II and was assigned to the Governor’s Executive Aircraft in Topeka.  Zimmerman was promoted in 1985 to sergeant and continued to serve the Governor’s Executive Aircraft.  In January 1998, Zimmer was promoted to lieutenant and was assigned as a zone supervisor in Dodge City.  Zimmerman received a Certificate of Recognition from former Governor Hayden in recognition of his critical assistance in talking a student pilot through a crash landing on June 4, 1990, which the pilot accomplished without injury.

Zimmerman is a graduate of Fowler High School in Fowler, Kan., and he has an associate's degree in criminal justice from Barton County Community College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1973, most recently serving as an infantry weapons expert. Prior to joining the Patrol, Zimmerman was a police officer in Liberal, Kan. He also served two terms on the Dodge City Airport Advisory Board.

The Patrol wishes Kerry the best in his retirement!
