Captain Herridge Retires from Patrol

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Captain Joe Herridge retired from the Patrol on September 10, 2007, after serving the citizens of Kansas for 27 years.

Herridge joined the Kansas Highway Patrol on June 18, 1980, and was assigned to road patrol duties in Wichita. In June 1987, Herridge joined the agency’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement (MVE) program in Wichita. He was promoted to sergeant in MVE in November 1988. He transferred to Chanute in July 1994, and became a zone supervisor in 1995. He was promoted to second lieutenant in 1998 and continued his supervisory duties in Chanute. In May 1999, Herridge was promoted to lieutenant and was assigned to east region special operations. Herridge was promoted to captain in December 2002, and was appointed operations commander of Troop H, which includes 16 counties in southeast Kansas. In 2004, Herridge transferred to captain of MVE, based in Wichita. As a member of the Patrol, Herridge was a recruit class counselor in 1983, a AAA instructor in 1984, a field training officer for a trooper trainee in 1985, and a range master in 1995.

Herridge is a graduate of West High School in Wichita, Kansas. He enrolled in general studies at Wichita State University, and he studied criminal justice at Barton County Community College. Prior to joining the Patrol, Herridge worked in mechanical assembly at Chance Manufacturing Company in Wichita. He is a member of the Kansas Peace Officers’ Association, Kansas Sheriffs’ Association, and the Knights of Columbus.
