Technical Trooper Linenberger Retires from Patrol

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Technical Trooper Darrell W. Linenberger retired from the Patrol on September 9, 2007, after serving the citizens of Kansas for over 28 years.

Linenberger joined the Patrol on June 18, 1979, and was assigned to road patrol duties in the Ulysses area. In 1984, he became a pilot and transferred to the Patrol’s aircraft unit in Topeka. He was promoted to master trooper in 1992, and he became a technical trooper in 2003, continuing to serve in the Patrol's aircraft program in Topeka.

As a member of the Patrol, Linenberger was a radar instructor from 1983 to 1984, an airplane instructor from 1988 until his retirement, airplane instrument instructor from 1990 until his retirement, helicopter instructor from 1999 until his retirement, and a night vision goggle instructor from 2005 until his retirement. As a Kansas Highway Patrol pilot, Linenberger logged 1,134 total hours as a flight instructor and gave 825 hours of instruction to KHP and Kansas Bureau of Investigation pilots. Linenberger also signed 15 flight check endorsements for additional pilot’s ratings. In 2006, Linenberger received a Meritorious Service Award from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department for helping locate a sniper hidden in school bleachers.

Linenberger is a graduate of Holcomb High School in Holcomb, Kansas. He has served in the Kansas Army National Guard since 1972 and currently is a chief warrant officer 4 serving as a pilot. As a member of the National Guard, Linenberger served as a helicopter pilot, flying medical evacuation missions in Bosnia in 2000 and in Egypt in 2001. He is scheduled for deployment to Iraq in October 2007.
