Eichkorn Promoted to Captain

Colonel William Seck, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that John A. Eichkorn was promoted to captain of the Homeland Security Division on December 30, 2007.
Eichkorn joined the Patrol on June 18, 1988, and was assigned to road patrol duties in Osage County. He transferred to Shawnee County in 1989 and continued his road patrol duties. In 1995, Eichkorn joined the Support Services Unit at the agency's General Headquarters in Topeka. He was promoted to sergeant in 1998 and second lieutenant in 2000. In 2003, Eichkorn was promoted to lieutenant and was assigned to the Office of the Assistant Superintendent, where he continued to serve until his recent promotion.
As a member of the Patrol, Eichkorn taught D.A.R.E. classes to 5th graders at Scranton and Overbrook elementary schools in 1993 and 1994. He was a field training officer for two troopers in 1994, and he served as a safety trooper in 1995. Eichkorn served as the agency's statewide public information officer from 1997 until his promotion to captain. The Kansas Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration presented Eichkorn with a People Saving People Award in 2001, and Safe Kids Kansas presented him with an Outstanding Coalition Member Award in 2002.
Eichkorn is a graduate of Shawnee Heights High School, and he earned a bachelor's of science in criminal justice from Washburn University. He is active in the USD 437 / Auburn-Washburn School District as a Site Council member at Jay Shideler Elementary School and a Vision Forward Committee member for the district.
