Major Dewell Retires From HIghway Patrol

Major Craig Dewell

Colonel Terry Maple, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Major Craig R. Dewell retired from the Patrol on March 10, 2008. He served the citizens of Kansas for more than 31 years.

Dewell joined the Patrol on December 18, 1976, as a trooper assigned to road patrol duties in the Atchison area. In 1979, he transferred to Newton. Dewell was promoted to sergeant in 1983 and was assigned to Garden City, where he served as one of the agency's public resource officers. In 1985, Dewell transferred to Wichita and served as a field supervisor. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1987 and served as assistant troop commander in Troop D, headquartered in Hays. In 1990, Dewell was promoted to captain and became the Troop D commander. He was promoted to major in 1998 and served as West Region commander until his retirement.

Dewell is a graduate of Winfield High School in Winfield, Kansas, and he earned a bachelor's of arts in history and political science from Southwestern College in Winfield.
