Stoecklein Promoted to Major

Major Alan Stoecklein

Colonel Terry Maple, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Alan P. Stoecklein was promoted to major of the Western and Central Regions on March 9, 2008.

Stoecklein joined the Patrol on June 18, 1980, and was assigned to road patrol duties in the Lakin area. He was promoted to sergeant in 1987, and was a zone supervisor in the Hutchinson area. In 1998, Stoecklein was promoted to second lieutenant and continued his duties as a zone supervisor in Hutchinson. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2000 and was assigned as a troop commander in the Wichita metropolitan area. Stoecklein was promoted to captain in 2002 of Troop F, which includes 13 counties in south central Kansas. As major of the Western and Central Regions, Stoecklein will oversee the operations of Troops C, D, E, and F, which all together include 73 counties. He also will oversee the commander of Troop S, which includes the agency's Special Response Team, Police Service Dog Unit, and Hazardous Devices Unit. As a member of the Patrol, Stoecklein was a recruit class coach in 1984 and 1985 and a field training officer in 1982 and 1984.

Stoecklein is a graduate of Garden City High School in Garden City, Kan. He earned an associate's degree in administration of justice from Garden City Community College and a certificate of training from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. Prior to joining the Patrol, Stoecklein was a police officer with the Garden City Police Department. He is a member and past president of the Reno County DUI Impact Panel from 1993 to present.
