Walker Retires from Highway Patrol

Colonel Terry L. Maple, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Motor Carrier Inspector Sergeant Gary D. Walker retired from the Patrol on June 16, 2008. Walker served the citizens of Kansas for nearly 23 years.
Walker joined the Patrol on November 6, 1985, as a Motor Carrier Inspector (MCI) II assigned to mobile enforcement duties in the Colby area. He was promoted to MCI III in 1988. He was promoted to sergeant in 1993 and became the supervisor of motor carrier inspectors in Troop D, which includes northwest Kansas. Walker was the range master in Troop D between 1997 and 2008, and he was the weapons armorer between 1998 and 2008.
Walker is a graduate of Lenora Rural High School in Lenora, Kansas, and he studied business law and criminal justice at Fort Hays State University. He served in the U.S. Navy between 1970 and 1974, most recently holding the rank of 3rd Class Petty Officer, Operations Specialist in Electronic Warfare. Prior to joining the Patrol, Walker was a captain with the Plainville Police Department in Plainville, Kansas.
