McCune Promoted to Captain

Colonel Terry L. Maple, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Marc J. McCune has been promoted to Captain, effective June 15, 2008.
McCune joined the Patrol on July 18, 1984, as a trooper assigned to road patrol duties in the Ulysses area. In 1988, he transferred to Topeka. McCune joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation Task Force in May 1994 and continued to work from Topeka. In May 1996, he was promoted to master trooper and was assigned to patrol the Kansas Turnpike, stationed in Emporia. He was promoted to lieutenant in October 2005 and supervised field operations in the Atchison area. With his recent promotion to captain, McCune will oversee the Capitol Police, which provides law enforcement services at the Capitol Complex and state-owned facilities in the Topeka area. As a member of the Patrol, McCune was a field training officer in 1989, a recruit class counselor in 1989, and a range master. He also served on the Kansas State Troopers' Association executive board and board of directors between 1996 and 2005. McCune received a Commander's Commendation in 2003 for his investigation of a flood on the Kansas Turnpike that killed six people.
McCune is a graduate of El Dorado High School in El Dorado, Kansas. He also studied criminal justice at Cowley County Community College. Prior to joining the Patrol, McCune was a patrolman with the Winfield Police Department.
Congratulations, Marc, on your promotion!
