Colonel Terry Maple, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has announced that Daniel W. McCollum was promoted to Lieutenant on July 27, 2008, and will assume his supervisory duties in the northeast Kansas.

Lieutenant McCollum began his career with the Patrol on July 9, 2001 as a road trooper stationed in Topeka, Kansas. On July 9, 2008, McCollum was promoted to Master Trooper. With his July 27, 2008 promotion to Lieutenant, McCollum will supervise field troops in Atchison, Jefferson, Doniphan, and Brown counties. In addition to his duties as a road trooper, McCollum has served as a Cadet Law counselor in the summer of 2003 and a field training officer in 2006. For the 2005 Legislative session, McCollum covered Legislative detail. He presently serves as Command Bus Driver, Intoxilyzer 8000 Instructor, Intoxilyzer 5000/8000 custodian for the Topeka office, and is a RAVE (Roving Aggressive Violation Enforcement) team member. In 2004 McCollum received a Commander's Commendation for his proactive enforcement efforts in seat belt, speeding, and moving hazardous violations.

McCollum graduated from Plattsburg High School in Plattsburg, Missouri. Prior to joining the Patrol, he received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Management from the University of Missouri.

Congratulations on your promotion, Dan!
