Coffee County Receives New Trooper

Trooper Hess

Colonel Terry Maple, Superintendent of the Kansas Highway Patrol, has assigned Trooper Ronald G. Hess Jr. to Coffey County. Trooper Hess received the assignment following the completion of an extensive 22-week basic law enforcement course at the Patrol's Training Academy in Salina.

Trooper Hess is a graduate of Burlington High School, in Burlington, Kan. Hess joined the Patrol with prior law enforcement background. From 1999 to 2001, Hess was a Burlington Police Officer, serving as a Federal Certified Driving Instructor and a Controlled Force Defensive Tactics Instructor. In 2001 Hess became a member of the Coffey County Sheriff's Office, serving as both a K-9 handler and SRT (Special Response Team) member. Hess also worked as a substitute teacher for USD 244 and was Assistant Baseball Coach at Burlington High from 2007 to 2008.

Trooper Hess has begun his field training duties under the direction of Trooper Eric Akins. Once his field training duties are complete, Trooper Hess will assume patrol duties in Coffey County.
