K-State Post-Game Traffic Routes Altered
U.S. 24/Marlatt Ave. construction will alter traffic routes following Wildcats' home games all season
Wildcat fans and other travelers to Bill Snyder Family Stadium this football season should be prepared for some changes in traffic routes. Construction and realignment of the intersection of U.S. 24 (Tuttle Creek Boulevard) and Marlatt Avenue will alter some post-game traffic routes for those leaving K-State home football games the entire 2009 season. The changes to post game traffic will only affect those exiting from the east parking lots of Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Post game traffic exiting from Bill Snyder Family Stadium, and the nearby lot located at the northwest corner of Kimball and Denison, will be sent east on Kimball Avenue to U.S. 24 (Tuttle Creek Boulevard). Traffic at Kimball and U.S. 24 (Tuttle Creek Boulevard) will be routed north and south at the intersection.
"The main change for traffic this year will be for fans that want to go north on U.S. 24," said Lieutenant Greg Harkrader, field supervisor for the Kansas Highway Patrol in the Manhattan area. "In years past, we funneled that traffic north on Denison, and then east on Marlatt to U.S. 24. With the construction zone in that area, traffic needing to go north on U.S. 24 will now travel east on Kimball, to the intersection of U.S. 24, and then travelers can go north."
KHP troopers and officers from the Riley County Police Department will be controlling the U.S. 24/Kimball intersection on K-State’s home game days this football season.
A map (click here) has been made directing travelers to the appropriate routes while construction is underway. Area law enforcement is encouraging fans to "Go with the Green," by reviewing the map and following the designated post game routes (marked in green) as indicated. The map is available at www.kstatesports.com. Fans may also tune into radio station 1610 AM in their vehicles for traffic advisories as they leave the stadium.
