KHP's Thanksgiving Activity Totals

Preliminary activity figures for the Kansas Highway Patrol over the Thanksgiving holiday reporting period are in. There were six fatalities in Kansas. Troopers investigated fatality crashes in Butler, Neosho, and Stafford counties. Local law enforcement investigated fatality crashes that occurred in Nemaha, Douglas, and Shawnee counties.

Members of the Patrol participated in the Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) sponsored by KDOT. The STEP campaign is conducted during high-volume travel holidays in an effort to help reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roads, encourage safety restraint use, and promote safe driving habits.

Over the holiday, Troopers reported:

  • three fatality crashes which killed three people;
  • eight DUI-related crashes;
  • 46 Driving Under the Influence arrests;
  • 1,684 speeding citations;
  • 1,157 motorists assists; and
  • 194 safety restraint citations, 54 of which were for child restraints.

The holiday reporting period ran from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 29.
