Patrol Begins Hiring Process for Class #51

Class will begin career in July 2012

This is a big year for the Kansas Highway Patrol. This year marks our 75th anniversary of providing service, courtesy, and protection to Kansans and travelers in our state. KHP Recruit Class #50 is going through the Training Academy now. And, as of yesterday, applications are being accepted for KHP Recruit Class #51. The agency is looking forward to hiring new troopers to join those already patrolling Kansas highways.

"We pride ourselves on providing professional and courteous services to the citizens of Kansas, and with the addition of Recruit Class #51, it further enhances our ability to do so," said Captain Scott Harrington, Commander of the Patrol's Public and Governmental Affairs section.

Applications are being accepted now through Friday, February 24th. Applicants will go through an extensive hiring process, which will include a written examination, physical agility test, polygraph exam, background investigation, interview, physical examination, and psychiatric test. Upon successful completion of these steps, final offers of employment will be made. The recruits will report to the Training Academy on July 10, 2012 to begin 22 weeks of training. The hiring process has been condensed to allow the class to begin this year, with applicants going through a six month hiring process, rather than the yearlong process that was in place previously.

With retirements, promotions, and short-staffing in many areas of the state, these new troopers will come at a welcome time. The Patrol prides itself in the assistance we offer to local agencies. Hiring additional troopers will not only enhance our ability to assist other agencies, but provide much needed law enforcement coverage throughout the state that Kansas residents and travelers through our state have come to rely on.
