Qualifications, Hiring Process & Training


  • Free of conviction of any crime punishable by imprisonment in a federal or state penitentiary
  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Possess a valid Kansas driver's license

Hiring Process

Candidates are screened through an application process. Successful applicants are interviewed by a board of KHP personnel. A background investigation precedes any offer of employment.


Motor Carrier Inspectors receive on-the-job training at their assigned scale houses. Motor Carrier Inspectors 
also are required to complete 16 hours of in-service training each year.
