The Kansas Highway Patrol provides airborne police services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and emergency service agencies.
Troop T provides support on missions such as:
Disaster assessment and relief
Photo surveillance and evidence gathering
Search and rescue
Transporting vital equipment, personnel, and assets
The Patrol has aircraft based in Topeka, Wichita, and Hays. The agency maintains a Bell 407 helicopter (currently under repair), a fixed-wing Cessna 182 RG, and three fixed wing Cessna 206s. The helicopter and 2 of the 206s are equipped with Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), which allows pilots to see at night by sensing body heat, making it a valuable tool in searching for persons.
Executive Aircraft Operations
Another function of Troop T is Executive Aircraft Operations. The Patrol owns and operates a Raytheon King Air 350 twin-engine, turbo-prop plane capable of carrying nine passengers. Based in Topeka, the King Air supports the Protective Services Detail to the Governor and other public officials.
