KHP Arrests 16 Following Protests

Today, June 11, 2018, The Poor People’s Campaign held a rally at 6th and Kansas at the entrance to the Athene building, The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) in Topeka. The demonstrators were blocking the entrance to the building, not allowing anyone to exit or enter the premises.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., the demonstrators were given a five-minute warning to vacate the premises or they would be subject to arrest. Most of the participants peacefully complied, moving back to the sidewalk. However, 16 individuals refused, and were taken into custody for Interfere with Conduct of Public Business; Prevent Entrance or Exit (a misdemeanor). These individuals were booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
